New Beginners FAQ
Q. Do I need a partner?
A. You don’t need to bring a partner, as we will make sure that everyone changes partners so that each person gets the chance to dance with a partner during the class. However, there is a discount if you do bring someone to dance with.
Q. What should I wear?
A. There is no dress code for our classes. Wear something that you feel comfortable in, that doesn’t restrict your movement too much.
Q. What shoes are suitable?
A. Men should wear comfortable flat shoes with a smooth sole. Ladies should wear comfortable flat or low-heeled shoes, with a smooth sole. We advise against wearing trainers as these can stick to the floor and restrict movement.
Q. Where can I buy dance shoes?
A. We sell a range of Ballroom and Latin shoes. Please ask to see our catalogue.
Q. Do I need to enrol?
A. Enrolment takes place on the first night of a new course. Please contact us to reserve your place in advance, or you can turn up on the first night and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Q. What happens at the end of my 6-week course?
A. We continue running the classes in blocks of six weeks, for as long as we have enough interest. Just keep coming along at the same time, and you will progress through the levels. See our Class Details page for more details about the different class levels.
Q. Why am I classed as a Beginner for a whole year?
A. There ten dances in total: five Ballroom and five Latin dances. We teach a mixture of Ballroom and Latin dances in all of our classes, gradually introducing new dances while building up the routines of the ones you already know. Because you are learning several dances at once, it takes a while to master them; this is why our classes are called beginners classes for a year. See our Class Details page for further details about the different class levels.
Q. I've danced before. Which class should I join?
A. Try out a few classes to see which one suits your level the best. Alternatively come and speak to us and we will suggest a suitable class for you.
